Dr. Bernadette Pivarunas is a developmental psychologist specializing in disordered eating, eating disorders (Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorder), obesity (including Type 2 Diabetes) and co-occurring disorders such as Depression, Anxiety, and PTSD (including developmental and complex trauma). Dr. Pivarunas earned her advanced degrees (M.S. and Ph.D.) at Colorado State University and received specialized training in the treatment and science of eating disorders at the University of Chicago Adult Eating and Weight Disorders Program, the Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders at the University of North Carolina, and
Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Dr. Pivarunas is trained in a number of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. She’s also trained in Sensorimotor Therapy for the treatment of trauma, one of only two clinicians in Kentucky utilizing this approach, and in PACT (A Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy) – the only clinician within 250 miles of Louisville to integrate attachment theory, developmental neuroscience, and arousal regulation in working with couples. Dr. Pivarunas has experience working with individuals ages 10 and older, couples, families, and groups. She has published several peer-reviewed scientific articles and presented at professional conferences 19 times.
Dr. Pivarunas is looking forward to joining the Louisville Center for Eating Disorders early this summer.
