Hello, I’m Doctor Levinson
Clinical Director, Licensed Psychologist
As a native of Louisville I have seen firsthand how eating disorders negatively impact our community. I spent 15 years away from Louisville at world-renowned Universities training in the treatment and research of eating disorders. Now, as an Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville I am passionate about bringing the best services to our state. The therapists, dietitians, and prescribers at the Louisville Center for Eating Disorders provide the best treatments and team based approaches for eating disorders. Reach out and we will help lead you or your loved one to recovery.
We offer an individualized program that includes psychological therapy, dietetics counseling, and psychiatric support. This program is ideal for individuals who need more than outpatient therapy or who are transitioning out of residential or partial hospital programs.
The best treatment for an eating disorder is based on a team approach. In addition to our psychological services, we provide nutrition counseling. You will work with our experienced dietitians who specialize in nutrition for eating disorders.
We offer empirically-based outpatient therapy for all eating disorders including, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, other-specified feeding and eating disorders, avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder, and selective eating disorder.
The best treatment for an eating disorder is based on a team approach. In addition to our psychological services we provide medication support for those who can benefit.
We offer training for students learning to become therapists, dietitians, and prescribers, as well as for licensed professionals who want to learn more about eating disorders. We also offer trainings for hospitals who treat eating disorders.
Eating disorders often co-occur with anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and substance use disorders. Our specialists are trained to treat eating disorders AND any other co-occurring psychological illness.
We provide evidence based treatments for eating and co-occurring disorders (anxiety, depression).
Evidence-based treatment means that all of our providers specialize in treatments that science has supported as effective. In addition, we personalize all of our treatment plans, based on evidence, to make sure that the treatment best fits your unique needs. Here are a few treatments that we specialize in:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders
- Family Based Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy
- Perfectionism Therapy
- Meal-Support Therapy
- Mindfulness Therapy and Intuitive Eating
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Treatment to Improve Body Image
The treatments we use at the Louisville Center for Eating Disorders have been shown to reduce disordered eating, anxiety, and depression and improve quality of life.
We will work with you to make sure you can afford treatment. We offer reduced rates for people with financial need. We can also work with your insurance company if you wish to apply for a single-case agreement.
The first time you come to therapy is scary! We do our best to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible. In your first session we will spend two hours asking you lots of questions about your eating, anxiety, mood, and history. We ask these questions so that we can develop a personalized treatment plan that is best for you.
Our team is trained in the best treatments for eating disorders. We also know that treatment is hard. Our approach is to use the best treatments, personalized with your unique needs, and used at your pace, to make sure that you have the most successful recovery journey possible.
